About the Event
La edad de la ilusión at Huerta de San Vicente features 200+ pieces of Spanish children’s publishing (1876–1936): original books, magazines and illustrations from Pinocchio, TBO, Calleja and Gente Menuda in Lorca’s summer home.
Huerta de San Vicente, Federico García Lorca’s summer home, hosts La edad de la ilusión. Children’s publications (1876–1936) from 18 February to 25 October 2026, curated by José Vallejo. More than a bibliographic show, it offers an emotional journey into childhood as creative territory: how imagination, illustration and theatre shaped the sentimental education of several generations.
Three rooms on the first floor organise 200+ original items around the golden age of Spanish children’s books: Calleja publishing house (1876), education laws that drove literacy, and legendary titles such as Pinocchio, TBO, Pulgarcito and Gente Menuda. The route explains how a commercial industry aimed at young readers — theatre, crafts, collecting — grew alongside the adult market.
Entry is free Tuesday–Saturday 10:00–17:00 (closed on public holidays). It suits families with curious readers and adults reconnecting with the illustrations that shaped their childhood. The Huerta reinforces its role in Granada’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2031.
